TRAINING PROGRAMMES

Training: Courses

COURSES

We provide training in the internal arts (Neijiaquan 內家拳). Specifically, these are Baguazhang (八卦掌), Taijiquan (太極拳) and Xingyiquan (形意拳).

There are two general types of training programmes which we wish to promote here: Combat and Health/Other.

COMBAT

The initial focus is on conditioning, i.e. basic drills (Jibengong 基本功). Jibengong conditions and strengthens the body. It betters whole-body coordination, gives proper posture and equips the body with the power and mobility to perform the arts in combat. Without proper conditioning, the arts cannot be performed in combat. These include leg and arm strengthening exercises, though the exercises typically involve the whole-body to some degree.
The basics can then be applied to training drills in Sanshou ( 散手 fighting), Tuishou (推手 Push Hands) and sparring. Sparring is an infrequent part of training, but is incorporated to put to test certain aspects of trained skills.

HEALTH/OTHER

The primary focus is on basic drills (see above) and Taijiquan form practice. We strive to make good Neijia and Taiji accessible to those whose training focus is health and recreation. The drills and form may thus be modified to cater to age and mobility.

We also have alternative training programmes for Youth and Children which may involve more rudimentary martial training, as dependent on your needs.
